AP Literature and Composition 5th, 6th, 7th for 8/31/17

Reading

 Please finish reading "Araby".

Remember to mark passages that are confusing, provocative, interesting, and/or revealing.

Please come to class with written questions, insights, and ideas.

Question: The narrative stance (the position of the narrator in relation to the story they tell) always disturbs me because I'm never sure if I'm listening to an 8 year old boy who likes a book with "yellow leaves" and a pretty girl, or an adult trying to make sense of (or forget) a childhood "epiphany".  To what extent is the narrator reliable (or unreliable) and in what ways does he both distance himself from the experience and/or gain new insights into the same?
