AP Lit 2nd and 3rd - Araby

Assignment due Friday 9/1:

"Araby"

Dear 2nd Period, the assignment is the same; however, many of you will find it useful to take the Romantic / Realist assessment from the perspective of your assigned narrative voice. As you answer the questions think about specific evidence from the text that supports your choice. When you've finished, then compose your brief narrative analysis.

Please come to class with your questions, your observations, and your writing. (BTW, I am not looking for perfection. I'm interested in your ideas, insights, and questions).

Try Annotating the text with these THINKING NOTES:

! -  I love this part
? -  Raises a question for possible class discussion
?? - Something is unclear or confusing to me

Prompts:

If you’re a Romantic narrator what does your epiphany at the end of the story say about the magnitude of this experience? Are there places in your narrative where the ideal-naïve-pure- gallant boy is still intact? Where and why? What is it that you’re trying to tell us about life and the human experience?

If you are a Realistic narrator how would you explain the magnitude of this experience at the end?  How do you see the 8 – 10 yr old you and what is your attitude toward him? To what extent do you understand exactly what happened at the Bazaar? What is it that you’re trying to tell us about life and the human experience?
