Assignment due Tuesday : 9/5
"Araby"
Please take the Romantic / Realist assessment from the perspective
of the narrator at the end of the story. As you answer the questions think
about the text and find specific evidence from the text that supports your answer. When
you've finished, then compose your brief narrative analysis.
Please
come to class with your questions, your observations, answers/support and your writing.
(BTW, I am not looking for perfection. I'm interested in your ideas,
insights, and questions).
Prompts:
If you’re a Romantic narrator what does the epiphany at the
end of the story say about the magnitude of this experience? Are there places
in your narrative where the ideal-naïve-pure- gallant boy is still intact?
Where and why? What is it that you’re trying to tell us about life and the
human experience?
If you are a Realistic narrator how would you explain the
magnitude of this experience at the end? How do you see the 8 – 11 yr old you and what
is your attitude toward him? To what extent do you understand exactly what
happened at the Bazaar? What is it that you’re trying to tell us about life and
the human experience?
