Due at the Beginning of Class:
Poetry Journal:
Periods 2 and 3 -"otherwise" with annotations, "Story of How A Wall..." annotated and with in class questions answered, "I Know I'm..." annotated. If you are missing a poem find a copy of the Soto, annotate it completely (as we've been doing in class), and answer the questions below. If I have your journal you may staple it in tomorrow.
Periods 5,6,7 - Same as the above, plus annotated "Sometimes it takes a long time to get buried" by Gary Soto and the in class questions answered (they differed by period). Generally, they were 1) How are patterns of organization important in this poem, 2) What ironies seem glaring and how might they be important, 3) What truth about the human experience do you think Soto is trying to communicate to readers, and 4) How do specific word choices (4 examples of nuanced diction) and selection of detail (2 examples) establish or articulate this idea?
Completed Character Foils Charts: At least 3 sets of foils (character graphs are not due until after 1st class whole novel discussion).
SOS Dialectical Journal Check - Through Chapter 14
Remember, I'm looking for 1) evidence of a dialogue with the text - questions, observations, quotes, and /or specific details that created Aha! Moments in your reading.
2) your obsevations, ideas, comments about how your theme is established and with which characters it is most relevant.
Study Guide questions are not being graded until after class discussions.
6 weeks test SOS (20 or so reading questions) on 9/28 A and 9/29 B
I'm certain you'll want your updated SOS journals with you.
