  1. Morrison talks about Muse in the foreword. Based on her definition of a muse, do you think that a muse exists or not? Support your answer.
  2. Talk about the significance of father and daughter/son relationships.  Use what Morrison says about her father to help guide your answer.
  3. Write your thoughts of Toni Morrison as a writer after reading the foreword.  Use specific examples from the text to explain your answers.
  4. Morrison gives a thorough analysis of a sentence from Song of Solomon:

                                 “The North Carolina Mutual Life
                                   Insurance agent promised to fly
                                   from Mercy to the other side of Lake
                                   Superior at 3:00.”
