Paper Update

Paper Due Date:12/9 - 12/13

AS you may have heard, I've extended submissions through the 13th. What does this mean? It means that I do not expect to see last minute, unedited, unrevised writing. Now that you have time, remember to read each sentence of your paper aloud ( and I do mean out loud).  Find a classmate, someone from another class, an AP Junior, ANYONE who can discern clear writing. If it sounds like it isn't perfectly clear (see the sample) then revise it!!!

Remember, the extra time does not mean wait until Sunday Night / Monday morning (2 AM) to submit your paper.

Blackberry - Picking Homework

Remember, Imagery is the combination of Diction + Details to create figurative language that connects to the reader’s experience. It is through this combination that poets organize ideas and find meaningful poetic structures for their works.

Task:  

1.  Look for Physically intense words. Remember, you're seeking to determine the speaker's deeper understanding of the whole experience.

2. Diction - What words, upon closer inspection, truly stand out? How? (Make a list of words and their denotation and connotations - use a tri column t chart on back of paper THANKS FOR THE PERFECT CHART ANASTASIA!) Why these words as opposed to others? (answer the question)

On Separate Paper: compose responses to the following:

3. Details: What details stand out to the shape the speaker's perspective? What facts do they tell us? Are there signs? 

4. Now go back and Annotate the poem for imagery (AVTKGO). What kinds of imagery does Heaney use? Do one or two types of imagery dominate? How (Diction + Details)?  What is their effect/impact? Find tone words that characterize the imagery. What does the imagery communicate to the reader? (this is the delivery of both tone and mood)

5. Repetition, Patterns, Comparisons - What impact do these elements have on the poem? On the reader? Is there an Extended Metaphor?If so, what is the EXTENDED comparison?)

Once you've completed the steps on paper (please be thorough)  attempt to answer the original question: what is the speaker's deeper understanding of the whole experience of picking blackberries (yes, here you will need tone words for your statement).
